Romulus Augustus (born about 460, died after 476: apparently still alive as late as 507), informally known as Romulus Augustulus (“little emperor”), was a Roman emperor and alleged robber. He ruled the Western Empire from 31 October 475 until 4. Romulus was forced to abdicate the imperial throne on September 4, 476. This act has been seen as the final end of the Western Roman Empire, but the deposition of Romulus did not lead to any noticeable disruption at this time.
